How can I get my motorbike licence in QLD?

To obtain your motorbike licence in QLD, you should do the following:

  1. Undertake a Head Start course (optional)
  2. Check you’re eligible for the Q-Ride Pre-Learner course
  3. Have your driver’s licence for at least 12 months 
  4. Complete the Q-Ride Pre-Learner Course
  5. Undertake a 30-question knowledge test to obtain your learner’s licence
  6. Upgrade your licence online or at a TMR Service Centre
  7. Complete the Hazard Perception Test (HPT) within 90 days of obtaining your licence
  8. Hold your learner’s licence for 90 days  and then undertake the Q-Ride Restricted (RE) Licence Course
  9. Practice your skills, road rides with supervisors and/or book in for private lessons for skills and road rules
  10. Undertake the Q-Ride Restricted (RE) Licence Course 
  11. Upgrade your licence online or at a TMR service Centre
  12. Spend 2 years on your RE Licence 
  13. Receive your R-class learner’s permit to ride an R-class motorcycle 
  14. Book your Q-Ride Unrestricted (R) Course
  15. Upgrade your Licence online or at a TMR office
